Title Garden room building with timber cladding

Welcome to Foundation Buildings

Garden room building with composite cladding. Building structure using SIP panels for maximum insulation.

A garden room from Foundation Buildings is a great way to add additional space to your home without the disruption and cost of a building extension.

Your garden room could be used as a home office, an entertaining space/bar, home school, an art studio or just some extra space for you to enjoy the peace and quiet of your garden.

The installation of a garden room doesn’t have to be daunting. There are countless options available, as every building is designed and constructed to suit your size and requirements.

You may prefer a full turnkey construction with everything fully finished, or you may prefer to do certain elements yourself?

SIP panel walls under construction

Foundation Buildings often use SIP panels for the structure, rather than traditional timber frame, especially with the escalating timber prices we have at the moment.

Designed for efficiency and ease of assembly, SIP panels are a high performance building system which consists of an insulated foam core sandwiched between two OSB (oriented strand board) timber boards. SIP panels are manufactured accurately under factory controlled conditions.

SIP panel buildings are one of the most environmentally responsible building systems available. The SIP panel construction is extremely airtight and is a good insulator for both sound and heat. This reduces greenhouse emissions and saves the waste caused by alternative methods of construction.

SIP panels have higher insulating properties than timber frame construction, which leads to fewer drafts and cheaper heating costs and also provides a stronger method of construction. The SIP panels are simply slotted, bonded and screwed together, using simple joints.

Also, because SIP panel buildings have the insulation preinstalled within the structure, there is no need to create the dust and mess of cutting sheets of insulation and fitting them between the timber framework.

A SIP building structure is often assembled within a couple of days – saving you time, money and labour.

Air conditioning is a popular choice for SIP buildings, which keep your building cool in the summer and warm in the winter, whilst providing clean air into your garden room building.

Introducing the “Block Deck” garden room base

Foundation base for garden room structure

One of the most important things to consider when planning your garden room is how the base of your building is going to:

  • Support your building structure and the weight of it’s contents.
  • Withstand the wind uplift and snow loadings on the roof.
  • Prevent the ingress of water and damp.

Foundation building have designed a fully insulated floor and foundation system, called “Block Deck”.

The Block Deck base can be used for timber frame, SIP panel or lightweight steel frame buildings. The building is simply fixed directly to the steel framework. There is no need for a separate timber floor deck, the chipboard flooring is simply fixed to the Block Deck framework using special drill point screws called Tek screws.

The Block Deck framework is fully insulated, below and around the perimeter, which provides a fully insulated envelope which prevents condensation.

Block Deck is a very practical solution and is quick and easy to install.
